Rock Make festival

On 23 Aug I went to a street festival in the Mission called the Rock Make festival. They blocked off Treat street for about 100m. They had a stack of indie bands playing on two stages at either end, and a bunch of arts and crafts by local makers on sale in tents. It’s logistically hard for me to see bands late at night in the city so this was a good oppotunity to sample Frisco’s indie wares.
I had to get back reasonably early for my lecture so I didn’t see all the bands. My favourite were a three piece band called , consisting of a drummer who looked a lot like Richard Hagen and two guys who alternated between guitars and early 80s vintage Roland synths. Their synth work especially was very good – a little Baroque.
I bought a few arts and crafts to send back home as souvenirs. Indie clothes for toddlers were prominent – I’d guess a third of the stalls were selling kids clothes and one was dedicated to this. I’ve seen a bit of this in Melbourne so it was interesting to see it in full flight.
I discovered it’s easier to get to the Mission from the SF station than 22nd street, so no more lugging my bike up Potrero Hill.
